This drink has been popping up everywhere lately and for good reason. It takes a standard iced coffee and turns it into something special by adding a touch of maple syrup and a pinch of salt to the espresso shot before mixing it with cold milk.

My biggest tip for this recipe is to make sure your espresso is hot when you add the butter. This helps it melt and emulsify into the coffee, which creates that lovely thick texture we all love.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 shot of hot espresso
  • 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter
  • 1 pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup cold milk of your choice
  • 1 cup ice cubes

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Pour the hot espresso into a small glass or jar.

  2. 2

Add the maple syrup, butter, and salt to the hot espresso.

  3. 3

Use a handheld milk frother or a small blender to mix the espresso mixture until it is thick and frothy.

  4. 4

Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.

  5. 5

Pour the cold milk over the ice.

  6. 6

Slowly pour the frothed espresso mixture over the milk and stir gently to combine.

💡 Tips

If you want a dairy free version, you can swap the butter for a neutral oil or coconut oil and use oat milk. Drink this right away while the coffee is still cold and the ice has not melted too much to keep the flavor strong.
