There is nothing quite like the smell of apples and cinnamon baking in the oven on a slow afternoon. This crumble has been a favorite in my kitchen for years because it is simple to put together and always brings everyone to the table for a second helping. It is the perfect comfort food when the weather gets a little chilly.

My best tip is to use a mix of apple varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. The tartness from the Granny Smith apples balances out the sweetness of the brown sugar topping beautifully. Serve this warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream for a real treat.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a baking dish.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with the granulated sugar and cinnamon until they are evenly coated.

  3. 3

Spread the apple mixture into your prepared baking dish.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, and brown sugar together.

  5. 5

Use a pastry cutter or your clean fingers to rub the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.

  7. 7

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  8. 8

Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

💡 Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. To reheat, just pop a serving into the oven or microwave until it is warm again. You can also serve this with a dollop of whipped cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
