September is my favorite time to head into the kitchen. As the air gets a little crisper, I love pulling out this apple cake recipe because it makes the whole house smell like a dream. It is the perfect treat for those first chilly afternoons.

This recipe is simple to put together and uses fresh seasonal apples. My best tip is to chop your apples into small, even pieces so you get a bit of fruit in every single bite.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 cups peeled and chopped crisp apples
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9 by 13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

  3. 3

Add the eggs and oil to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.

  4. 4

Fold in the chopped apples and walnuts by hand until they are evenly distributed throughout the thick batter.

  5. 5

Spread the batter into your prepared baking pan.

  6. 6

Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

Let the cake cool on a wire rack before you slice it to serve.

💡 Tips

Serve this cake warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a special dessert. If you have leftovers, cover the pan tightly and keep it on the counter for up to three days.
