There is something so special about waking up to the smell of homemade waffles. This recipe is my favorite because it hits that perfect balance of textures that everyone loves for a cozy weekend breakfast.

The secret is whipping your egg whites until they are stiff before folding them into the batter. This simple step makes the waffles incredibly light instead of dense. Be sure to let your waffle iron get nice and hot before you pour the batter in to get that golden crust.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 1 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

  2. 2

In a separate small bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

  3. 3

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

  4. 4

In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

  5. 5

Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the waffle batter using a spatula.

  6. 6

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer instructions.

  7. 7

Lightly grease the iron and pour in the batter, cooking until the waffles are deep golden brown and crispy.

  8. 8

Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

💡 Tips

You can keep leftover waffles in the freezer for up to a month. Just pop them in the toaster for a minute to get them hot and crispy again when you are ready to eat.
