Nani's Classic Homemade Bread Pudding
A cozy, comforting dessert that turns simple leftover bread into a warm and creamy treat.
recipesbynani.comThere is nothing quite like the smell of bread pudding baking in the oven on a quiet afternoon. It is one of my favorite ways to make sure no bread goes to waste, and it always feels like a warm hug in a bowl.
My secret for the best texture is to let the bread soak in the custard for at least thirty minutes before it goes into the oven. This makes sure every single piece is soft, tender, and full of flavor.
🧺 Ingredients
- 6 cups stale bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce for drizzling
👩🍳Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a 9x9 inch baking dish with butter.
- 2
Place the cubed bread into the prepared baking dish so it is spread out evenly.
- 3
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- 4
Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, making sure every piece is covered.
- 5
Let the dish sit for 30 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid properly.
- 6
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set but still slightly wobbly.
- 7
Remove from the oven and drizzle the caramel sauce over the top while the pudding is still warm.
💡 Tips
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can easily reheat individual portions in the microwave or the oven until warmed through. Serve this warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you want to make it extra special.
