There is nothing quite like the smell of cinnamon and apples baking in the oven. It is one of those simple pleasures that makes a house feel like a home during the fall season.

My favorite trick for this recipe is to use a sturdy variety of apple like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp because they hold their shape perfectly while getting nice and soft.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 4 large firm apples
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup hot water

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

Wash the apples and remove the cores, making sure to leave the bottom intact so the filling stays inside.

  3. 3

In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.

  4. 4

Place the apples in a baking dish and spoon the sugar mixture into the center of each apple.

  5. 5

Top each apple with a small pat of butter.

  6. 6

Pour the hot water into the bottom of the dish to keep the apples moist.

  7. 7

Bake for about 30 to 40 minutes until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.

  8. 8

Serve warm with a spoonful of the juices from the pan.

💡 Tips

These are delicious served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat them in the microwave for a quick snack the next day.
