This apple cobbler is a staple in my kitchen whenever the weather starts to cool down. It has that wonderful homey smell of cinnamon and nutmeg that makes everyone gather in the kitchen, and it is honestly much simpler to put together than a traditional pie.

My secret to the best cobbler is using a mix of tart and sweet apples so you get a nice balance of flavor. It is best served warm from the oven, preferably with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream melting right on top.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 egg, beaten

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a baking dish.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with 3/4 cup sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then spread them into your prepared baking dish.

  3. 3

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, 1 cup sugar, and baking powder.

  4. 4

Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it looks like coarse crumbs.

  5. 5

Stir in the beaten egg until the mixture is crumbly, then sprinkle this topping evenly over the apples.

  6. 6

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.

  7. 7

Let the cobbler sit for about 10 minutes before serving so the juices can thicken.

💡 Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can reheat individual portions in the microwave for a few seconds. If you want a little crunch, sprinkle some chopped walnuts or pecans over the topping before you put it in the oven.
