There is something so special about waking up to the smell of fresh buns baking in the oven. These blueberry cheesecake treats are a favorite in my kitchen because they look like they came from a fancy bakery but are actually quite simple to put together with a basic sweet dough.

I love serving these when I have friends over for coffee or as a special Sunday morning surprise for my family. If you have ever made cinnamon rolls before, you will find this process very familiar and fun to master.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 egg beaten for egg wash

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.

  2. 2

Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about five minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for one hour or until it doubles in size.

  5. 5

While the dough rises, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla together until smooth.

  6. 6

Punch the risen dough down and divide it into equal pieces, rolling each into a small flat circle.

  7. 7

Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture and a few blueberries into the center of each circle, then pinch the edges together to seal them tight.

  8. 8

Arrange the buns on a baking sheet, cover them, and let them rise for another thirty minutes.

  9. 9

Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg.

  10. 10

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 to 25 minutes until the tops are golden brown.

💡 Tips

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep the cream cheese filling fresh. These taste best if you warm them up in the oven or microwave for a few seconds before serving.
