Easy Chicken Philly Cheesesteaks
These quick chicken philly cheesesteaks are a crowd favorite that tastes just like your favorite sandwich shop.
recipesbynani.comThere is something so satisfying about a warm, toasted roll packed with juicy chicken, sautéed peppers, and plenty of melted cheese. This is one of my go to meals when the family is hungry and I need dinner on the table in a hurry.
My biggest tip for this recipe is to slice your chicken into very thin strips while it is still slightly frozen. It makes the cutting process much faster and gives you that perfect texture every single time.
🧺 Ingredients
- 2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 bell peppers, seeded and thinly sliced
- 8 ounces sliced provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter
👩🍳Instructions
- 1
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
- 2
Add the sliced peppers and onions to the pan. Sauté them until they are soft and slightly browned, then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
- 3
In the same skillet, add the chicken strips. Season them with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- 4
Cook the chicken until it is golden brown and fully cooked through.
- 5
Add the peppers and onions back into the pan with the chicken and toss everything together to combine.
- 6
Divide the mixture into four piles inside the pan and top each pile with slices of provolone cheese. Let the cheese melt completely.
- 7
While the cheese is melting, lightly butter your hoagie rolls and toast them in the oven or on a griddle until warm.
- 8
Use a large spatula to carefully scoop each cheesy chicken pile into a toasted roll and serve immediately.
💡 Tips
If you want an extra touch of flavor, try spreading a little mayonnaise or garlic aioli on the inside of the rolls before serving. You can store leftover chicken mixture in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days, but it is best to toast fresh rolls when you are ready to eat again.
