Easy Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry
These flaky, golden apple turnovers are the perfect sweet treat for any time of day.
recipesbynani.comThere is something so comforting about the smell of cinnamon and baked apples wafting through the kitchen. These turnovers are a favorite in my house because they taste just like a classic apple pie, but they are much easier to pull together using store bought puff pastry.
My best tip for success is to make sure your pastry stays nice and cold before you put it in the oven. If the butter in the dough gets too warm, you will not get those beautiful, airy layers that we all love.
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 package frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 2 large apples, peeled and finely diced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar for the glaze
- 1 tablespoon milk
👩🍳Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
In a small bowl, mix the diced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and flour until the apples are evenly coated.
- 3
Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut them into four equal squares each.
- 4
Place a spoonful of the apple mixture into the center of each square.
- 5
Fold the pastry over the apples to form a triangle and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal them shut.
- 6
Brush the tops of the turnovers with the beaten egg.
- 7
Bake for 20 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- 8
Whisk the powdered sugar and milk together in a small bowl and drizzle the glaze over the cooled turnovers.
💡 Tips
These are best enjoyed warm on the day they are baked. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for one day or pop them in the fridge to keep them fresh for a little longer.
