There is something so comforting about a big pot of sauce simmering away on the counter. This recipe is a favorite in our house because it is a true set and forget meal that makes the kitchen smell wonderful all afternoon long.

I love serving this over a steaming bowl of pasta with a crisp Caesar salad on the side. It is the perfect cozy dinner for a busy weeknight when you want a home cooked meal without standing over the stove.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until it is fully cooked.

  2. 2

Drain any excess fat from the skillet and transfer the beef into your crock pot.

  3. 3

Add the onion, garlic, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and all of the seasonings to the pot.

  4. 4

Stir everything well until the tomato paste is fully combined with the other ingredients.

  5. 5

Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.

  6. 6

Serve warm over your favorite cooked pasta.

💡 Tips

Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. You can also freeze this sauce in individual portions for an easy lunch later in the month.
