There is something so special about a warm, bubbling casserole waiting in the oven after a long day. This dish is a true crowd pleaser because it combines savory seasoned beef with a creamy mushroom sauce and plenty of melted cheese, all topped off with those crispy golden tots that everyone loves.

My biggest tip for this recipe is to make sure you spread the tater tots in an even layer across the top. This ensures every single bite gets that perfect crunch. It is such a simple way to get a hearty meal on the table without spending all night in the kitchen.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots
  • Salt and pepper to taste

👩‍🍳Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. 2

Brown the ground beef and diced onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the meat is fully cooked.

  3. 3

Drain any excess grease from the skillet.

  4. 4

Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, frozen vegetables, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  5. 5

Pour the beef mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish and spread it out evenly.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the beef mixture.

  7. 7

Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer over the cheese.

  8. 8

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until the tater tots are golden brown and the edges are bubbling.

💡 Tips

This casserole is best served fresh from the oven while the tots are nice and crispy. If you have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days and reheat them in the oven to bring back some of that crunch.
